Stabilizer technology, this Canon 55-250mm telephoto zoom lens captures
long distance, low-light shots far better than many comparable lenses,
helping you photograph the far-off action of athletes or zoom in for an
intimate portrait with a blurred background. The high-zoom-ratio lens
is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when
used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses). More
significantly, the image stabilizer effect creates an equivalent
shutter speed of roughly four stops faster than the same size lens
without an image stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter
speed you can hold a 250mm lens steadily is normally 1/250th of a
second, this Canon lens will let you hand-hold shutter speeds as slow
as 1/15th of a second. The lens also boasts a UD-glass lens element to
correct chromatic aberration to create excellent image quality
throughout the zoom range. Delivering an excellent performance at an
affordable price for all photographers.

Absolutely Happy

Got my camera for Christmas and wanted a lens that would improve on the best toy that I have gotten for that holiday. This was it. The focus is great, the ease of use is better then expected, and the pictures are more then I'd hope for. The entire deal was fast and worth the money spent. Thank You

Good for the Beginner

I purchased this lens to go with my T2i. It was a lightning deal so I had very little time to decide whether to buy it or not. I jumped at the offer and received the lens in two days. I tried it out snapping shots from my balcony of the houses and boats that have been the subject of every test photo I have taken. The lens is slow to focus in bright daylight in the Program Mode and slower if used in AV mode above f8. The images are acceptable but not as crisp as you may wish them to be. I some of the acceptable considering the price of the lens. My regular lens is the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM UD Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras and it is much sharper than this lens. Once you get used to the quality of images from a high-quality lens introductory or kit level lenses like the 55-250 become unacceptable. However, for the less critical snapshot shooter this lens offers a longer focal length that is short on cost. I returned the lens after trying it out.
