The Opteka manual focus mirror lens is incredibly compact and lightweight. Using an advanced reflex design, this is a mirror lens that is ideally suited for wildlife and sports photography. It has a fixed aperture of f8. It comes complete with a soft pouch and three (3) rear mounted, 30.5mm filters, (ND-2X, ND-4X & Skylight). Opteka mirror lenses incorporates advanced computer designed optics and the latest in multi-coating techniques.á The process of multi-coating assures virtually flare free photographs even under adverse lighting conditions resulting in crisp high contrast pictures with full color fidelity.

Opteka 500mm Mirror Lens-Good Choice for Weight

I bought this lens for my Pentax K20D. It's a very good choice for portability considerations since it's very short and extremely light weight.This lens has an inherently very low contrast, so I recommend adjusting your in-camera contrast all the way up if possible. You also may want to add more in-camera saturation and sharpness to any images taken with it. If you are hand-holding this lens, and it is possible to do this, you will need to bump up the ISO to at least 800 or higher. You may want to experiment with the noise reduction setting since over noise reduction tends to soften the image even further. When using a tripod you have to be aware of mirror slap moving the camera during the exposure. I usually set the self-timer to it's shortest delay setting. Also, standing on solid ground or rock with this lens on the camera is required. A camera, tripod and this lens used on a wooden deck for example, is a recipe for disastrously fuzzy photos.Depth of field is inherently extremely shallow. This is a function of the 750mm effective focal length (Pentax APS-C sensor has a 1.5x multiplier). Regardless of whether you buy a fully glass, non-mirror 500mm lens, it's something you have to live with and the manual focus doesn't help much.All in all, I recommend this lens if portability is the main objective. It very likely doesn't provide images quite as sharp as a non-mirror lens, but if you can live with this it's worth the price.

Am using this lense on Pentax Kx, encountered focusing problem. Had a Poloroid 72mm cpl installed. Fiddled about for a time and decided lens was un-acceptable. Considered what I was really doing and removed the cpl. Viola! Lens became tame and clear as expected.Am offering this experience to provide directive to others who may have had disappointing results. Tripod is essential, don't impede the lens in any manner until after "bare bones" field trials. I shall keep this lense and enjoy its many possibilities!Thank you Amazon for tremendous offerings and impeccable service. --Norris--

Quality of image is not good.

Was disappointed a lens of this size catching so little light. The lens cover "screws" on rather than regular type covers which have a squeeze release. Not bad enough that I will return it.
