An Opteka High Definition 500mm preset telephoto lens incorporates not only computer optical design, but also the latest optical multi-coating techniques. The process of multi-coating assures virtually flare free photographs even under adverse lighting conditions resulting in crisp, high contrast pictures.
Preset Lenses are designed to retain a full range of exposure, automation and metering capabilities of the cameras on which they are mounted. This lens is great for nature and sports photography. The amazing power of this lens gives you the equivalent of looking through a pair of 10x power binoculars. It has a manual preset diaphragm, a rotating tripod mounting collar and a soft lens pouch.
Advances in high-index / low-dispersion optical glasses, new barrel materials, and exotic anti-reflection coatings, along with the latest in computer-aided-design / computer-aided-manufacturing, are combined to produce lenses of unprecedented quality. Diamond-cut from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, Opteka lenses are ground and polished to a precise precision.

Definitely worth the money (if you are not a pro)

I have seen much debate in the reviews of this lens (which I have also seen branded as Phoenix/Samyang/Rokinon), so I figured I'd throw my $.02 in. I've just recently gotten into photography as a hobby and I'm still learning the very basics of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc. and how they all interact, but was looking for an affordable way to get some decent shots of the moon with my newly purchased Nikon D3100. After doing some research, I came across this lens. I was skeptical because half of the reviews (mostly posted by pro-level photogs with plenty of cash to burn) gave horrible ratings because of the low quality of the glass. But was encouraged by the amateur level guys (and girls) who said if you know what you're doing you can get some decent results. There were also a few users who gave bad reviews because the lens "did not work with their camera" or were getting a "no lens attached" error - this lens does not contain any electronics, so everything must be shot in MANUAL mode - If you are looking for auto focus and metering, this is not the lens for you. So, I figured for just about $100, I'd take my chances. And I must say I'm pretty happy with the results - you can see a couple of the shots in the user images. Granted there is some noticeable chromatic aberration, I'm happy with the results so far. And I'm looking forward to using it in the daytime.Oh, and 47th Street Photo is a great merchant!

Much better than expected for $100

I had purchased an Opteka teleconverter for my old Canon Powershot S3 before and had good results, so I decided to give this lens a try on my Nikon D3200. Low light evening shots turned out noisy, but afternoon shots on a cloudy day looked great. Even with the 2x teleconverter it picked up plenty of light. The colors came out very vivid. Yes, it is very hard to hold steady, but mounting the lens on a monopod helps a lot.I had to use the remote trigger and a tripod when using the 2.2x teleconverter as any movement at all will completely knock the subject out of the very small field of view.Update: A week after I started using this lens, I started to see several small specs of black flakes in my view finder of my camera. I think it was the coating of this lens flaking off and getting inside of my camera. I have sent my camera out to be cleaned and hope to get it back soon. I will have to be more cautious about turning this lens upside down and letting flakes fall down into my camera.
