This ultra-telephoto lens is incredibly compact and lightweight. Using an advanced reflex design, the Pro Optic mirror lens is ideally suited for wildlife and sports photography. It has a fixed aperture of f/6.3;that's faster than most 500mm mirror lenses. Simple T-mount adapters screw on the lens to fit almost any SLR camera. Works with auto focus cameras in manual focus mode only. Includes a soft carrying pouch.

Only for catadioptic enthusiasts

I bought this lens, even though I have used a catadioptic before, so was aware of its drawbacks. My conclusion: leave it to catadioptic fanatics! Getting started was not easy: I use a Sony A-100 which apparently does not recognize this lens; that's simple enough to fix once you find the correct menu and tell the camera to operate even though it thinks there is no lens attached, but the lens instructions don't mention the problem. More seriously, there is so much light loss that I could never see the image clearly enough to focus sharply. This week I took 120 wildlife photos on the Great Salt Lake (migratory birds, wading slowly, not flying, in brilliant sunlight; i.e., perfect conditions) and not one is worth keeping; nothing like as good as the same subjects taken with my Sony 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 lens and then enlarged. Perhaps it's fun to play with - but for the same cost I far prefer a conventional 300mm Tamron zoom, where I have much more control over what I am doing and I can also leave my camera on autofocus and programmed, something that is impossible with the catadioptic. An expensive mistake - especially since the company will not accept the lens even as a trade-in, saying that there's no market for it!.
